PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Butler men's soccer team lost a road match to Providence on Saturday night, falling by the final score of 2-1. The Friars (4-4-5, 2-2-3 BIG EAST) struck early to take a one-goal lead, but the (rv) Bulldogs (8-4-1, 3-2-1 BIG EAST) equalized just before halftime. Providence converted a penalty kick for the only score in the second half and held on for the win. With the loss, Butler falls into fourth position in the BIG EAST standings with four matches remaining. The Bulldogs are just 3 points behind a trio of conference contenders, Georgetown, Xavier, and Seton Hall, who are all tied for the top spot.
