STORRS, Conn. – Butler dropped a three-set decision Friday night at UConn, as the host Huskies took a 25-15, 25-23, 25-22 win.
The match pitted two teams in the heart of the BIG EAST standings. With the result, Butler is now 10-11 and 4-5 in the BIG EAST; UConn improves to 5-5 in conference play and 11-10 overall.
STAT OF THE MATCH: UConn hit .281 in the match, putting down 51 kills in the three sets.
SET 1: UConn 25-15
The host Huskies never trailed in the opening set, taking a 25-15 decision. Caylee Parker had six kills in the frame as UConn hit .368 as a team.
SET 2: UConn 25-23
The second set was much more closely contested as the Bulldogs found themselves down 21-20 late in the set. Butler was unable to climb back on top over the closing stretch as the Huskies went up two sets to none. Butler frustrated the UConn offense with four blocks in the set, but three Huskies each had four kills.
SET 3: UConn 25-22
Once again, the Bulldogs were in the mix late in the set with a tied 16-16 score. A mini-run by UConn was able to keep the visitors at arms' length over the final stretch. Parker had eight kills in the set, while Jasmine Davis had six. UConn hit .349, while Butler's .290 hitting percentage was the best of the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The two teams will meet again in the regular season finale Nov. 20 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
- Two Bulldogs registered double-doubles as Mariah Grunze had a team-best 10 kills to go along with 10 digs. Setter Cora Taylor had 26 assists and 10 digs.
- Libero Jaymeson Kinley had a match-high 18 digs on the evening.
- Butler had a 7-5 advantage in blocks.
- Parker led UConn with 16 kills.
