@ButlerMSoccer Defeats St. John’s on Senior Night

INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler men's soccer team celebrated ten student-athletes on Saturday who are playing their final season in a Bulldogs uniform and then celebrated a 2-1 victory over visiting St. John's. In a chaotic opening five minutes, the Red Storm (4-7-4, 2-3-3 BIG EAST) converted a penalty in the third minute, but the Bulldogs (9-5-1, 4-3-1 BIG EAST) answered quickly with a tally of their own about 20 seconds later. Butler added another goal about seven minutes before halftime, and that proved to be the game-winner.
 
With two matches remaining, the Bulldogs are now tied with Xavier in the third spot in the BIG EAST standings, three points behind Seton Hall and six points behind league-leading Georgetown. UConn is in fifth, two points back, and Providence and Creighton are tied for sixth, just three points behind Butler and Xavier.

  • 4' | Butler answers, immediately, when Rico Hollenkamp splits two defenders and advances toward the St. John's goal. The Red Storm keeper comes out to challenge, and Hollenkamp sends the ball inside to Jack Streberger, who has separated from his defender. Streberger is able to redirect the ball into the open net to level the score at one.
  • 37' | Hemi Nasser intercepts a St. John's pass in the offensive third and connects with Palmer Ault in the right side of the box. Ault touches once and then finds Streberger in front of the goal.
