The Butler men's soccer team finished in a tie for third in the BIG EAST conference and, after receiving the No. 4 seed, will host No. 5 seed Providence in a BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal match on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs (9-5-3, 4-3-3 BIG EAST) are coming off a 3-3 draw with No. 3 seed (No. 19) Xavier, while the Friars (5-4-7, 3-2-5 BIG EAST) most recently defeated No. 6 seed Creighton.

The winner of this quarterfinal will move on to face No. 1 seed Georgetown on Thursday, Nov. 10.

  • Palmer Ault ranks seventh nationally and leads the BIG EAST with 4 game-winning goals. He is second in the conference with 8 goals (32nd) and 22 points (22nd). His 6 assists are fourth (67th) and his shot accuracy of .459 is ninth in the conference.
  • Wilmer Cabrera Jr. leads the BIG EAST and is 20th nationally with 3.19 shots per game, and he is third in the conference (40th) with 1.38 shots on goal per game. His 6 goals are eighth in the conference and his 15 total points are ninth.
  • Jack Streberger's 6 goals rank eighth in the BIG EAST.

  • Tommy Visser was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (11/3) for his performance against No. 19 Xavier. In the closing seconds of the match, and with the Musketeers holding on to a 3-2 lead, Visser was on the back end of a Butler throw-in that was first redirected by Perrin Barnes and Palmer Ault. The redshirt-junior from Grand Rapids, Mich., got the final touch and scored with just 13 seconds remaining on the game clock. Visser totaled two of Butler's eight shots in the game.
           Against No. 19 Xavier:
  • Hemi Nasser's goal was his first of the season and the sixth of his career.
  • Wilmer Cabrera, Jr.'s goal was his sixth of the season and the 23rd of his career. He now is in sole possession of the 10th spot on Butler's all-time list.
  • Tommy Visser's goal was his first of the season and the fifth of his career.
  • Jack Haywood's assist was his third of the season and the 22nd of his career.
  • Jack Streberger's assist was his second of the season and the seventh of his career.
  • Perrin Barnes' assist was the first of his career, and his first offensive point as a Bulldog.
  • Palmer Ault's assist was the sixth in his career.
     
  • Butler's highest ranking this season was No. 12 in the Sept. 4 poll. The Bulldogs are 1-1-1 against opponents ranked in the top-20, defeating No. 14 Marshall (1-0), tying No. 19 Xavier (3-3), and losing to No. 15 Indiana (1-2).

  • In the 2021 regular season, Butler defeated Providence, 2-1, in Indianapolis. The two sides met a few weeks later in the BIG EAST Tournament (Washington, D.C.), and this time the Friars won, 2-0.
