MURRAY, Ky. – Butler led Murray State 4-1 after the top of the sixth inning, but the Racers would answer with four runs in the bottom half and add an insurance run in the seventh to collect a 6-4 victory. Jacob Pennington earned the win on the mound for the home team while Alec Whaley was credited with a save.
 
Butler scored single runs in the third and fourth to take a lead and two more runs in the sixth would put the Bulldogs in front 4-1 midway through the action. The BU bullpen got knocked around in the bottom half of the sixth which allowed Murray State to get back in it. The Racers scored four runs off four hits to take their first lead of the game. Alex Crump added a solo home run in the seventh to take us to the final score of 6-4.
 
Crump was impressive in the season opener going 2-for-2 with a double and a homer. Drew Vogel and Jake Slunder each went 2-for-4 and Vogel added two RBI near the bottom of the batting order.
 
Butler saw Kollyn All go 1-for-2 from the plate with a double and two RBI on sac flies. Travis Holt was good in his Bulldog debut, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Ryan O'Halloran scored two runs and went 2-for-3 for the 'Dawgs. The first hit of the season was a double by AJ Poynter and the first RBI belonged to James Gargano.
 
Cory Bosecker gave BU a quality start that stretched over five full innings. He exited the game allowing just five hits resulting in two runs. He walked two and struck out six. Greg Gilbert was hit with the loss on Friday evening.
 
Butler will return to action tomorrow with a 3 PM start at Murray State. Sunday's tilt is scheduled for a 2 PM start.
