CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois scored 13 runs off 14 hits to defeat Butler on Tuesday evening by the final score of 13-4. All four BU runs came off home runs with
Travis Holt,
Lukas Galdoni and
Jonathan Shoop all going yard against the Illini.
Butler trailed Illinois on their home diamond 7-0 after the first two innings of action. The first BU run would come courtesy of
Travis Holt in the sixth. Holt homered for the first time this season yesterday, then doubled his home run total tonight by sending a ball over the wall in left.
Comia would hit a three-run bomb in the bottom half of the sixth for Illinois to extend their lead to 10-1. Butler kept fighting and would see Galdoni hit a solo homer down the leftfield line on a full count in the seventh and Shoop would take a 2-2 count to deep right center in the ninth for two more runs.
Butler's
Brandon Haggerty took the loss (0-1) while Jack Crowder picked up the win (1-0). Haggerty was one of six 'Dawgs to throw in the midweek matchup.
Alex Voss saw the most time on the mound for BU. He threw 2.2 innings at Illinois and struck out a team-high two batters.
Butler will return to Indianapolis and prepare for a three-game home series this weekend against Eastern Michigan.
