INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler softball team won its second game in as many days against Creighton on Saturday, taking game two of the three-game BIG EAST series. The Bluejays (14-23, 4-14 BIG EAST) held a 1-0 lead after four innings, but the Bulldogs (25-14, 11-5 BIG EAST) produced a big, three-running fifth inning and held on for the 3-1 win, clinching the series.
How It Happened
- In the fourth inning, Creighton pushed one across to take a 1-0 lead.
- After stranding six runners in the first four innings, Butler put together a big fifth. With the bases already loaded, Mackenzie Griman hit a ball to the shortstop that allowed Lauren Fey (2-4, R, SB) to score from third and tie the game, 1-1. Mallory McMahon then bunted, giving Ellie Boyer (2-3, R, 3 SB) the opportunity to cross the plate. A third run came when Maddie Moore (2-3, RBI) singled to left center and pushed Ella White (1-3) home. The Bulldogs stranded three more runners but now led, 3-1.
- Alyssa Graves retired all six batters she faced in the sixth and the seventh to wrap up the win for Butler.
