INDIANAPOLIS – Head Coach Mike Uremovich oversees the running back position group on the practice field for the Bulldogs. Over half of the running backs on the 2022 roster are freshmen, but Uremovich is happy with the work all the backs are putting in during training camp.
 
"The running back room has been a lot of fun to coach, Uremovich stated. "We are very young and have a lot of work to do as a group. The guys are getting better every day. I am excited to see where we can progress to this fall."
 
Senior
AJ Deinhart (5-9, 185)
Deinhart is the leader of the running back room as the lone upperclassman. A year ago, Deinhart led the Bulldogs with 496 rushing yards on 101 carries. He played in all 11 games and averaged 4.9 yards per rush. His top performance of the 2021 season came against the top team in the PFL. Deinhart took 12 hand-offs against Davidson and logged 96 yards against the Wildcats while scoring a TD.
 
Sophomores
Brody Reder (6-2, 215)
Joey Suchy (6-0, 225)
There is a wrinkle to the sophomore running back class this season with Reder joining Suchy as a dual threat. Reder played quarterback for Butler in six games last year, rushing the ball 15 times for 84 yards and three touchdowns in a reserve role. Reder also completed eight of his 24 pass attempts for 125 yards. Suchy found success as a redshirt-freshman in 2021. He was active in all 11 games and scored three touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Overall, Suchy rushed the ball 56 times to cover 278 yards. His top performance came at Marist (11/20) when he set season-high totals in carries (19), yards (75) and touchdowns (2).

The five freshmen running backs on the roster are from five different states. Kyei-Fordjour returns to the locker room in 2022 as a redshirt-freshman. The Charlotte, N.C. native played against Morehead State a year ago in his lone action of the season. Caldwell hails from Johns Creek, Georgia and Jasey II is from nearby Jacksonville, Fla. Mencer is the homegrown product from Cathedral H.S. here in Indy and Baron had the longest commute to campus from Los Angeles.
