@ButlerUFootball Runs Away from Taylor, 45-10

Butler moved to 2-0 on the young season with a convincing 45-10 win over Taylor Saturday night at the Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis.

Bret Bushka, who earned Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week honors after his performance a week ago in Butler's win over St. Thomas (Fla.), continued his strong start to the 2022 campaign. Bushka completed 14 of his 20 passes for 117 yards, and also gained 80 yards on the ground on 12 carries. He had one touchdown through the air and another on the ground.

Taylor scored on the opening drive of the game, going 75 yards to score on a 10-yard rush from Brendan Lamb. That opening drive would prove to be 75 of the Trojans' 186 total yards on the evening. Butler responded with a score of their own – Bushka's rushing touchdown from six yards out – to knot the score, 7-7. That was the start of 42 consecutive points scored by the Bulldogs.

NOTES:
  • Six different Bulldogs scored touchdowns Saturday night, including Adam Sturtz who ran back an interception for a 75-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
  • AJ Deinhart led Butler on the ground with 85 rushing yards and a touchdown.
  • Tyler Adams had a team-best six catches for 39 yards, while Luke Wooten's 44 yards led Butler (three catches); Johnny O'Shea caught the only Butler touchdown through the air, a 12-yard strike from Bushka on the first play of the fourth quarter.
  • Butler had distinct advantages in first down (23-10) and rushing yards (290-118).
  • The Bulldogs converted six of their 12 third down attempts and went 2-for-3 on fourth down.
  • Butler was only forced to punt once, a 52-yard blast from Luka Zurak.
  • Joey Audia averaged 37.7 yards per kick-off return on three runbacks.
  • Mike Wymer led Butler with five tackles.
  • Taylor is now 2-1 on the season.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs travel to South Dakota State for a Saturday match-up with the No. 3-ranked Jackrabbits.
