INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's soccer team hosted Xavier for its BIG EAST opener on Thursday evening. The Musketeers (7-2-1) struck first, scoring on a set piece in the 23
rd minute. The Bulldogs (3-5-1) had several chances, including a shot off the post in the 80
th minute, but could never find the back of the net.
Key Moments
- 2' | Katie Soderstrom sends in a cross from the right side that finds Abigail Isger. Isger touches to the top of the six and gets off a quick shot to the near post that is saved.
- 23' | A Butler foul on the right side leads to a Xavier free kick about 30 yards out. Rachel Dewey serves into a crowd, and Natalie Bain redirects the ball with her head from eight yards out and into the lower left side of the net. The Musketeers take a 1-0 lead.

- 80' | Alexandra Pulaski sends a ball forward to Alexei Whittaker just outside the penalty area. Whittaker rolls the ball toward the goal, and it is dropped back by Soderstrom who finds Isger. Isger's left-footed shot toward the far post gets by the Xavier keeper and hits the right post, rebounding out in front of the goal, where it is cleared by the Musketeers.
