The Bulldogs opened BIG EAST play with a 3-1 road win at DePaul Friday night.
Butler won the match by a score of 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20.
With the result, Butler is now 7-6 on the season, while DePaul falls to 4-10.
SET 1: Butler 25-23
Trailing 15-11 midway through the opening set, the Bulldogs responded with 7-1 spurt to take an 18-16 lead and get back into the action. Butler needed another run at the end of the frame as the match was tied 20-20.
Amina Shackelford led the Bulldogs with eight kills on 11 swings. Butler hit .438 in the set.
SET 2: Butler 25-22
Butler pulled away late in the set after the teams were tied 17-17.
Megan Sheridan and
Mariah Grunze combined for 11 kills as the Bulldogs hit .375.
SET 3: DePaul 25-19
DePaul took control of the set with an early 10-3 advantage. Butler trimmed the lead to three late in the set but could never get over the hump. DePaul hit only .178 in the set, but took advantage of eight Butler hitting errors and two additional service errors.
SET 4: Butler 25-20
The deciding set featured nine ties with the final one coming at 19-19. Butler then won six of the next seven points to take the set and the match. Shackelford had six kills as seven Bulldogs had putdowns in the set. Butler hit .278 in the set.
STAT OF THE MATCH: Shackelford's 22 kills were a career-high for the junior; her previous high was 16 at Loyola. No Bulldog had registered more than 18 kills entering Friday's match.

- Megan Sheridan added 14 kills, while Boggess (nine) and Mariah Grunze (eight) each approached double figures.
- Grunze and Jenna Splitt each had 10 digs. The 10 for Splitt were a career-high.
