MILWAUKEE – The Butler volleyball team won the second set, but could not upset the Golden Eagles in Milwaukee on Saturday night. The opening weekend of BIG EAST action ends with Butler taking a 3-1 setback (12-25, 25-22, 8-25, 19-25) just one day after defeating DePaul 3-1 in Chicago.
 
SET 1: Marquette 25-12
The Golden Eagles only had one attack error in the opener to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Aubrey Hamilton and Hattie Bray each recorded four kills and Marquette would hit .400 as a team to record the win. Megan Sheridan got off to a nice start for the Bulldogs. She came up with a team-best four kills on 13 attempts.

SET 2: Butler 25-22
Butler led nearly the whole way in set number two to even the match at 1-1. Sheridan put the final kill down on a feed from Jaymeson Kinley to post the 25-22 win. Marquette closed the BU lead to just one at 23-22, but Amina Shackelford would move BU to set point and Sheridan's third kill of the set was the biggest of the night for the Bulldogs. Mariah Grunze and Shackelford combined for 10 of the 16 kills in the action.

SET 3: Marquette 25-8
Marquette made the necessary adjustments after the stoppage to put themselves on top 2-1 with a 25-8 win in the third. The score was 6-0 in favor of the home team and it never got closer as the set moved along. BU had just five kills while the Golden Eagles posted 16.

SET 4: Marquette 25-19
The final set was tied at 17-17, but Marquette used an 8-2 scoring run to finish off BU. Yadhire Anchante had 12 assists and four kills for the Golden Eagles and Carsen Murray also got involved with four kills and a block.
 
STAT OF THE MATCH: Cora Taylor recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Amina Shackelford hit .308 at Marquette with 10 kills. She added five digs and two blocks.
- Megan Sheridan had 11 kills and four digs vs. the Golden Eagles.
- Mariah Grunze tied Sheridan for the team-lead with 11 kills.
- Jaymeson Kinley led Butler with 25 digs.
- The Bulldogs are now 7-7 overall with a 1-1 record in the BIG EAST.
