INDIANAPOLIS — The Butler volleyball team beat Seton Hall in four sets (24-26 25-16, 25-18, 25-18) to earn their first conference win at home this season. The Bulldogs' offensive explosion helped the team edge out the Pirates to move to a record of 2-3 in the conference and 8-8 overall.

Set 1: Seton Hall 26-24
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 4-1 lead using kills from Destiny Cherry and Abby Maesch. Butler then caught fire going on an 8-0 spurt filled with kills from Cherry, Mariah Grunze, and Elise Ward to take a 12-4 lead. The Pirates then slowly crept back into the game eventually tying the set 21-2. A kill by Maesch gave Butler a 24-23 lead, but the Pirates would then close out the first set on a 3-0 run to win 26-24.

Set 2: Butler 25-16
Butler began the second set in a similar fashion using back-to-back serving aces from Reese Bates to take an early 3-0 lead. Seton Hall responded with three straight serving aces of their own followed by a 5-0 spurt to give them a 10-7 lead. The Bulldogs fought back with a 6-0 run to flip the score to 14-12 using blocks from Grace Boggess and a serving ace from Jaymeson Kinley. Butler piled it on the Pirates, widening the gap to 21-15 and ultimately ending the set on a 4-0 run capped off by a kill from Ward.

Set 3: Butler 25-18
The momentum in the third frame began in the Pirates' favor after they zoomed out to a 3-1 lead. Consecutive kills from Maesch would help the Bulldogs regain the lead at 4-3. The two teams would remain within two points until kills from Mariah Grunze gave Butler a 9-6 lead. The Bulldogs would then extend their lead to 14-10 after a block from Taylor and Cherry. A 3-0 spurt followed by a 4-0 run by Butler soon put this match out of reach at 24-15. Seton Hall tried for a late rally bringing the score to 24-18, but Boggess then got a kill to put an end to the third set.

Set 4: Butler 25-16
The Bulldogs went back to dominating in the fourth set jumping out to a 7-4 lead at the start using kills from Maesch and Ward. Seton Hall had no answers for Maesch as she continued to rack up more kills lengthening the lead to 17-13.
