@ButlerSoftball Sweeps Providence, Remains Perfect in BIG EAST

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Butler softball team moved to 6-0 in conference play and remains atop the BIG EAST standings after a second conference sweep, this time at Providence. After winning game one on Friday, the Bulldogs (12-18, 6-0 BIG EAST) took games two and three on Sunday, defeating the Friars (9-17, 2-7 BIG EAST) by scores of 12-7 and 10-2.

Game 2: Butler 12, Providence 7 (7 innings)
Butler struck early when a first-inning, two-run home run by Ella White (2-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 3 R) also brought home Sydney Carter (2-3, RBI, SB, 3 R). Providence matched the Bulldogs with a pair of runs in the second, and the game was tied, 2-2, after two full innings.

In the third, Butler scored four runs on four hits and an error. The highlight was three-run home run from Paige Dorsett (3-4, HR, 5 RBI) that knocked in Carter and White. The Bulldogs were up, 6-2, after three.

In the fourth, with Olivia Moxley and Kaylee Gross (3-4, 2 SB, 3R) on second and third, Providence made a pitching change. The next batter, White, proceeded to hit her second dinger in as many at bats – the Bulldogs' second three-run blast of the game. The Friars fought back, plating two in the bottom half of the inning. After four complete, the Bulldogs were up, 9-4.

In the fifth, Butler drew four walks in the span of five batters and increased the lead to 10-4.

After a scoreless sixth, the Bulldogs added two in the seventh. Kaylee Gross singled and Carter drew a walk. After both advanced a base, Dorsett hit a single, allowing both to tag home. Butler led 12-4, needing only three outs to end the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Providence rallied, with two doubles and two singles, but could only get as close as five runs.

Sydney Cammon (2-4) started in the circle for Butler, left in the fourth, and re-entered with one out in the sixth to finish the game. She picked up her second win of the season. In 4.2 total innings, she conceded seven runs, of which only three were earned. She allowed 10 hits without giving up a walk and struck out one. Rylyn Dyer (2.1 IP, 3 H, K) provided relief in the fourth with one on and nobody out. She lasted until the seventh.

Game 3: Butler 10, Providence 2 (6 innings)
After a scoreless first inning, Butler jumped in front, 2-0, in the second when Monique Hoosen homered, also knocking in Teagan O'Rilley.

In the third, with Kaylee Gross on second and Sydney Carter on third, Ella White hit her third home run of the day, giving the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead. Paige Dorsett then walked, and Kieli Ryan hit the second dinger of the inning, adding two more runs. Butler led, 7-0, after three complete.

After a Carter triple in the fifth, White put the ball in play, and the fielder's choice allowed Carter to tag the plate.

Providence scored two in the fifth, cutting the Bulldogs' lead to 8-2.

In the top of the sixth, Gross, Carter, and White loaded the bases. Loren Simpson drew a walk, scoring one, and Mallory McMahon drew a second walk, pushing across the final run of the game.
