INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler softball team lost to Georgetown, 12-3, in game one of a BIG EAST series. The Bulldogs (15-30, 9-7 BIG EAST) trailed the Hoyas (16-28, 9-10 BIG EAST) by only one run after four complete innings, but the visitors scored eight unanswered in the final three innings to secure the win.
How It Happened
Georgetown put one on the board in the top of the first, but Butler answered in the bottom half with a solo home run from
Ella White.
After a scoreless second, the Hoyas hit a two-run homer in the third, and pushed one more across in the fourth, building a 4-1 lead in the middle of the fourth. The Bulldogs got two back when
Sydney Carter singled and was knocked home on a two-run bomb by
Olivia Moxley. Heading into the fifth, Georgetown led, 4-3.
The Hoyas scored two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Mackenzie Griman (7-14) started in the circle for Butler and took the loss. In 4.0 innings she allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits while striking out two.
Sydney Cammon (2.1 IP, 4 H, 6 R, BB, 3 K) and
Kayla Noerr (0.2 IP, H, BB, K) each provided relief for the Bulldogs.

- Olivia Moxley's home run was her third of the season.
- Loren Simpson's double was her second of the season and the 11th of her career.
- Teagan O'Rilley's double was her second of the season and the fifth of her career.

Butler will complete the series with Georgetown with game two scheduled for Saturday and game three on Sunday. Saturday's game will include Senior Recognition prior to the first pitch. The Bulldogs will complete the regular season with trips to the University of Illinois-Chicago, for a single game, and Seton Hall, for their final conference series.
