Second-Half Performance Keys Butler to 69-62 Road Win at No. 11/12 Marquette

Behind a huge second half, Butler went on the road and knocked off No. 11/12 Marquette, 69-62, Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

The Bulldogs overcame a seven-point halftime deficit with a 41-27 second-half advantage.

The Bulldogs are now 11-5 overall and 2-3 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles fall to 11-5 (2-3 BIG EAST).

COACH THAD MATTA: "I'm so happy for our guys. We've been right there in a lot of games this season. I continue to see growth. We had three really good days leading into this game. This guy played like the senior he is and what we needed (on Jalen Thomas and his double-double)… Great team win for these guys; we beat a really good team tonight."

HOW IT TRANSPIRED:

  • Kam Jones scored 13 of Marquette's first 19 points as the Golden Eagles took a 19-12 lead over the first eight minutes of the contest.
  • Marquette's lead got to as many as 11 at 28-17 despite the Golden Eagles missing their first nine attempts from long range.
  • Despite 10 turnovers and only a combined five points from its two leading scorers in Pierre Brooks II and DJ Davis, the Bulldogs were only down 35-28 at the half.
  • A quick five points from Brooks pulled the Bulldogs within one at 35-34 less than four minutes into the second half, forcing a Marquette timeout.
  • A Posh Alexander lay-up with 13:52 remaining gave the Bulldogs their first lead at 41-40.
  • The run would extend to 11-0 and a 47-40 lead with 13:11 to play, forcing another Marquette timeout.
  • A Brooks three-pointer extended the lead to double digits for the first time at 52-42 with 11:20 remaining.
  • Landon Moore got a friendly bounce on a three-pointer to give Butler its largest lead of the night at 62-49 with 3:41 to play. At that point in the game, Butler was 10-for-20 from three-point range.
