WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Bulldogs lost a hard fought match at Georgetown in 3 sets (25-27,18-25, 19-25) on Friday night.
Georgetown 27-25
The first set was a wild one, Butler was able to start hot, opening up a 7-3 lead.
Alaleh Tolliver,
Grace Boggess and
Elise Ward all had kills during that stretch. Georgetown battled back and the two teams would continue to go back and forth from that point eventually leading to a 13-13 tie. A service ace and kill from Tolliver would allow the Bulldogs to lead by 3 late in the first set. As the set progressed, the Bulldogs found themselves down 22-20 where they would then score 3 straight points capped off by an Ward kill giving them a 23-22 lead. However, Georgetown would close the set out nicely to win it 27-25.
Georgetown 25-18
Georgetown started the second half strong, opening a 3-0 lead. Tolliver was able to power a rocket down the line to get Butler on the board, 3-1. The Hoyas were able to progress throughout the set opening up a healthy lead. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs would not quit, while Georgetown had set point Butler was able to go on a 7-0 run highlighted by two service aces by
Cora Taylor and a kill from
Laiya Ebo. Georgetown would eventually find the set point, winning the second set 25-18.
Georgetown 25-19
Set 3 started off being a back and forth affair, kills by Ebo and Ward allowed the Bulldogs to remain within reach early on. As the set went on, Georgetown was able to create some distance between them. Yet, Butler responded by going on a 6-0 run highlighted by a
Jaeda Lockhart kill. After the bulldog run, Georgetown would pull away to win the third and final set.
