Bulldogs Face No. 25 Mississippi State in Friday's Arizona Tip-Off Championship Game

Butler will play for the Arizona Tip-Off title Friday night, meeting No. 25 Mississippi State in a Battle of the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs knocked off Northwestern, 71-69, in one semifinal, while Mississippi State cruised by UNLV, 80-58, in the second semifinal of the night.

• Butler has played MSU once previously, a 47-46 win in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. That match-up was staged in Birmingham, Ala. Butler would go on to defeat Louisville in the second round before losing to top-seeded Oklahoma in the Sweet 16.
Jahmyl Telfort led Butler with 23 points in the win over Northwestern; he added a game-high five assists. Telfort went 7-for-12 from the field and made all seven of his free throw attempts.
Andre Screen registered 15 points, his high in a Butler uniform (his career-high of 20 was set during his time at Bucknell). 
• Screen led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds vs. Northwestern, his third consecutive game pulling down nine rebounds. Screen added three blocks, one shy of his career-high.
• Northwestern's Nick Martinelli entered the game averaging 23.8 points per game, which was fourth nationally; Butler's defense limited him to seven points on 3-for-15 shooting.
• Butler was able to beat Northwestern despite committing 15 turnovers compared to only forcing five by the Wildcats.  
• The Bulldogs went 21-for-27 from the free throw line in the win over Northwestern. The team's 77.8 percent accuracy is 28th nationally, while the team's 19.8 free throws made per game rank 18th. 
• Butler has made at least 17 free throws and has shot at least 70 percent from the free throw line in all six games so far this season. 
• Butler is ranked sixth nationally, limiting opponents to only 24.4-percent shooting from three-point range; Northwestern shot 4-of-16 vs. the Bulldogs Thursday. 
• Butler's field goal percentage defense is ranked 12th nationally as opponents have hit only 36.4 percent of their attempts from the field. 
• On the season, Butler is hitting 40.6 percent of its three-point attempts, a mark that is 14th in the country.
• Butler's trip to the desert for the Thanksgiving holiday marks their first games away from Hinkle Fieldhouse this season. 
Patrick McCaffery has scored in double figures in every game for the Bulldogs this season. 
Pierre Brooks II pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with his game-high 23 points to post the second double-double of his career in the Nov. 22 win over Merrimack. 
• McCaffery ranks 40th nationally in three-point percentage (48.6 percent).  
• Telfort, Brooks and McCaffery have combined for Butler's five 20-point scoring outputs (in addition to a separate 19-point game from Telfort vs. SMU).  
• Mississippi State is the third of Butler's five non-conference opponents that play in power conferences (Butler already has wins over SMU and Northwestern, and will also play at Houston and against Wisconsin in downtown Indianapolis in December). 
• Butler last played in the state of Arizona in 2004 as part of the Fiesta Bowl Classic in Tucson.
