The Butler University Dance Team is a yearlong commitment. Auditions take place in the spring semester of the previous school year. There will be up to 32 dancers selected between our Blue and White Team. The Butler University Dance Team is part of the Butler Athletics Spirit Program, alongside Butler Cheerleading and the Athletic Bands.

Expectations of Dance Team members

By auditioning and accepting a spot on BUDT, you are committing to the following:

Attending Dawg Days and/ or UDA Camp at the start of the school year

Attending schedule practices on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7 PM - 10 PM

Attending all scheduled performances for your assigned team (Blue or White)

What to expect at auditions: 

Registration will close Monday, April 15th. Dancers will receive videos of audition materials on Monday, April 15th. Dancers will receive a video of the Butler War Song, "Game Day Routine", and Jazz combo. All three elements will be evaluated at auditions. Auditions will begin at 8:30 am. Dancers will be evaluated on technique, war song, and both routines. Both current and new members are required to try out. If selected to be a member of the Butler University Dance Team, please be available for a team meeting around 6 pm on April 20th. We will NOT be naming those who are on Nationals 2025 at the time of auditions. 

Auditions attire: 

Dancers will wear ALL BLACK athletic attire. Please be sure clothing is tight fitting- sports bras, half tops, and tank tops are all okay. You may wear shorts or leggings, whatever you prefer. Dancers will need tennis shoes and jazz shoes/ turners. Please come with hair pulled back in either bun or pony tail and looking "game day ready". We will ask dancers to have some hair down during the "game day" portion of the audition. 

Skills evaluated (including may not be limited to): 

• Right, left, center splits
• Right and left leg hold/ tilt 
• Firebird
• Calypso 
• Right, left, center leaps 
• Triple (or more) pirouette
• Fouettés/ turn combination 
• Center "disk" leap 
• Strong pom, jazz, and hip-hop dance technique 

The judges are looking for experienced dancers who can easily adapt to multiple styles in a restricted time frame. Throughout the evaluation, we will be looking for dedication to your skill as well as to your school. As an ambassador of Butler University, each dancer must have a strong, positive and appropriate personal presentation at all times.

What to Bring:

Please bring lunch, snacks, plenty of water, and a positive attitude!

Attire: black leggings or shorts, jazz shoes, form fitting black tank top/ sports bra, hair worn all the way down, and performance make up. You may wear warm-ups over top. Tights are not required but you may wear them if you would like.
