ATLANTA, Ga. – The Butler softball team dropped Belmont in its first game of the Panther Invitational at GSU but then lost to South Dakota in the second contest of the day. The Bulldogs (2-5) never trailed in the 2-1 against the Bruins (1-3), but the Coyotes (1-5) jumped ahead early and built a large lead, winning by the final of 7-1.
Game 1: Butler- 2, Belmont- 1 (7 innings)
In the first inning, Butler used a bunt single from
Hailey Conger and also took advantage of two errors and a walk to jump in front, 2-0.
In the fifth, Belmont sent a double to the gap and plated one.
Katie Petran (2-0) pitched a complete game for Butler, picking up her second win of the season. In seven innings, she allowed one run on five hits with two strikeouts.
Game 2: South Dakota- 7, Butler- 1 (7 innings)
South Dakota scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, and two more in the third to take a 7-0 lead after three complete.
In the top of the fourth,
Teagan O'Rilley hit a solo home run to put the Bulldogs on the board.
Sydney Cammon (0-4) started in the circle for Butler and took the loss. In three innings, she was tagged with seven runs with only one earned. She allowed five hits and gave up two walks, striking out one.
Kayla Noerr (3.0 IP, BB, 2K) provided relief in the top of the fourth, pitching three scoreless innings.
