@ButlerSoftball Throttles Panthers at GSU

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Butler softball team picked up its third win at the Panther Invitational at GSU on Sunday, defeating Georgia State by the final score of 12-3. The Bulldogs (4-6) led throughout the game, though the Panthers (2-8) battled to within three runs after five innings at 6-3.

In the top of the second, Makena Alexander hit a leadoff home run. After two drawn walks, Cate Lehner singled in a second run, and the Bulldogs led, 2-0.
 
In the top of the third, Butler erupted for four runs, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Ella White and Paige Dorsett. Sydney Carter and Hailey Conger each contributed an RBI single. In the bottom half, Georgia State put one across. The score stood at 6-1, Bulldogs, after three complete.
 
The Panthers connected on a two-run home run in the fifth and drew to within three, 6-3.
 
In the top of the sixth, singles from Dorsett and Kieli Ryan sent two Bulldogs across, increasing the lead to 8-3, though three runners were stranded.
 
In the seventh, Butler used five singles and a double to produce four more runs.
 
Sydney Cammon (1-4) started in the circle for Butler, lasted into the fifth, and picked up her first win of the season. Credited for 4.0 innings, she allowed three runs (2 earned) on six hits and a walk, striking out three. Rylyn Dyer (0.1 IP, H, BB) came in with no outs in the fifth and faced three batters. Kayla Noerr (1.2 IP, BB, 2K) also entered in the fifth and finished the game.

  • Makena Alexander's home run was a career first.
  • Ella White's home run was her first of the season and the 13th of her career. She is now tied for 10th on Butler's career home runs list.
  • Paige Dorsett's home run was her second of the season and the 11th of her career.
  • Hailey Conger's double was her second in as many days and the second of her career.
  • Sydney Carter's double was her first of the season and the eighth of her career.
  • Cate Lehner's double was a career first.
  • Sydney Cammon's win in the circle was her first of the season and her fifth at Butler.
     
  • The Dawgs hit three home runs in three games last season, twice vs. Providence and once vs. Creighton.

Butler heads to Madeira Beach, Florida, to participate in the Spring Games from Feb. 23-25. Scheduled opponents are Middle Tennessee, Cornell, Brown, LeMoyne, and Bellarmine.
