CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Butler softball team dropped games to Omaha (1-0) and Northern Iowa (2-0) in their opening competition at the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic.
Cate Lehner went 4-for-6 for Bulldogs on the day, and
Monique Hoosen hit her first home run of the season. Butler (0-2) has three more contests this weekend.
Game 1: Omaha- 4, Butler- 1 (7 innings)
Omaha plated one in the second inning and added a pair in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Monique Hoosen hit her first dinger of the season over the left field fence to pull the Dawgs to within two. In the sixth, Butler advanced runners to second and third, with only one out, but neither was pushed across the plate.
Omaha added one run on a sacrifice in the seventh for the final three-run difference.
Sydney Cammon (0-1) started in the circle for Butler and took the loss. In four full innings, she allowed three earned runs on six hits, walking two.
Katie Petran (2K, 2BB, 1UR) made her collegiate debut in the sixth, pitching two hitless innings.
Game 2: Northern Iowa 1, Butler- 0 (7 innings)
UNI crossed the plate in the first inning, and the score remained 1-0 through six.
In the top of the seventh, Butler advanced runners to first and second with only one out. Effective pitching from the Panthers produced two successive outs, shutting down the threat and ending the game.
Rylyn Dyer (0-1) started for Butler and took the loss. In 4.2 innings, she allowed one earned run on five hits and three walks while striking out one.
Kayla Noerr (1.1 IP, BB) provided relief and finished the game for the Bulldogs.

Butler remains in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for its next two games at the UNI-Dome Classic on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Bulldogs will play Western Illinois at 9 am ET (8 am CT) and Drake at 2 pm ET (1 pm CT).
