The Butler men stand in second place after the second day of the 2024 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by JEEP. The final day of the championships are slated for Saturday at Villanova Stadium on the campus of Villanova University.
Butler's point total of 61 points trails only Connecticut (100).

Friday's finals included heptathlon and decathlon multi-events, men's and women's long jump, men's and women's javelin, women's pole vault, 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run.
The Bulldogs picked up 17 points in the 5,000 meters Friday night.
Jesse Hamlin took second in a time of 13:46.04, coming in .54 of a second behind champion Marco Langon of host Villanova.
Florian Le Pallec, after placing second in the 10,000 meters Thursday night, finished third in a time of 13:53.88.
David Slapak and
Jack McMahon placed seventh and eighth, respectively, for Butler.

Martin Kovacech also accounted for eight points with his second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time of 8:53.65 trailed only Patrick Thygesen of Providence (8:50.07).
Zac Stanley and
Cabott Craft picked up points in the long jump, taking sixth and seventh place, respectively. Stanley's jump of 23' 0-3/4" in the fifth round gave him sixth place and three points. Craft jumped 22' 4-1/2" in the fourth round as the freshman took seventh. The duo combined for five points.Â
Nick Kieny and
Jack Elder earned points for the Bulldogs in the decathlon. Kieny finished sixth with 5,369 points; Elder was seventh at 4,860 points, but did not complete the final few events. UConn's Diarmuid O'Connor won the event at 7,610 points.Â

For the Butler women,
Wiktoria Klebowska led the way Friday night with a runner-up performance in the steeplechase. She and Georgetown's Mary Hennelly were in a battle down the last straightaway with the Hoya edging Klebowska by .13 of a second. Klebowska's second-place finish came in a time of 10:19.19.
Freshman
Lily Wharton placed fifth in the heptathlon, earning four points for Butler in the team standings. She registered 3,864 points. Wharton placed third in the 100-meter hurdles, shot put and 200 meters. There were seven competitors in the field, including five from UConn. The Huskies' Alyssa Elliott won with 5,003 points.Â

The final day of competition begins at 10 a.m. ET tomorrow with the men's high jump. Track events begin at 1 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.
