Kyle Shondell earned his 100th career win as a collegiate women's volleyball coach. Butler now sits at 10-12 on the season and 3-6 in BIG EAST conference play.
Bulldog Bites
- Alaleh Tolliver led the Dawgs in kills and service aces. She scored nine kills and tallied four service aces.
- Lauren Evans led Butler in digs on the match with 11.
- Maria Nix tallied six kills on .667 hitting.
- Ellery Rees led the Dawgs in blocks (7). Sawyer Jones added six blocks of her own.
- The Bulldogs' defense held the Pirates' offense to a negative attacking percentage in two of the three sets.
Set 1 Butler (25-22)
Back-to-back service aces from Alaleh Tolliver, followed by a kill from Maria Nix, gave Butler an 11-6 lead early in the first set. A kill and a service ace from Elise Ward helped the Bulldogs extend their lead to 17-9.
In the later stages of the set, Seton Hall put together a 7-1 run to cut Butler's lead to 20-18. The Pirates then won four of the next six points to pull within one at 23-22, but the Bulldogs closed out the set by taking the final two points for a 25-22 win.
Set 2 Butler (25-15)
Back-to-back kills from Elise Ward gave Butler an early 9-2 lead. A pair of Seton Hall errors and an ace from Ward helped the Bulldogs extend their advantage to 13-5. A kill from the outside by Maria Nix made it 20-10, giving Butler a comfortable cushion in the second set.
The Bulldogs closed strong, winning the final three points. A block assist by Ellery Rees and Sawyer Jones sealed the set for Butler, 25-15.
Set 3 Butler (25-17)
A Tolliver kill and a Tolliver service ace helped Butler build an early 8-5 lead in the third set. A block assist from Ellery Rees and Sawyer Jones extended the advantage to 14-8.
Seton Hall rallied to cut the deficit to 20-17, but the Bulldogs responded by winning the final five points to close out the set and the match.
Zoe McDonald and Tolliver combined for a block assist to earn Butler's 24th point, and McDonald teamed up with Jones on another block to seal the 25-17 win.
