Butler Completes Reverse Sweep of St. John’s

Indianapolis IN- After dropping the first two sets, the Butler Bulldogs rallied to win the final three sets and beat St. John's 3-2. With the win, the Dawgs move to 11-12 on the season and 4-6 in BIG EAST play.

Bulldogs Bites
Set 1 St. John's (25-17)
St. John's jumped out to a 10-3 lead early in the first set. An Elise Ward kill cut into the deficit, but the Johnnies extended their lead to 19-9. Another kill from Ward, followed by an Alaleh Tolliver kill, trimmed the final margin to eight in the first set.

Set 2 St. John's (25-20)
St. John's once again earned an early advantage, leading 12-8 to start the second set. A kill from Alaleh Tolliver, followed by a block assist from Zoe McDonald and Tolliver, helped Butler stay within reach. However, St. John's built its lead to as many as eight points and went on to win the set by five.

Set 3 Butler (25-21)
The Dawgs came out of the locker room hot, using a 5-0 run to take an 11-7 lead early in the third set. An ace from Lauren Evans and a kill from Ellery Rees helped Butler maintain its advantage midway through the set. Another Evans ace, followed by kills from Elise Ward and Maria Nix, sealed the third set win and forced a fourth set.

Set 4 Butler (25-21)
The Johnnies found a few soft spots in the Bulldogs' defense early on and built a 10-6 lead. A 5-0 run propelled Butler in front, as a kill from Alaleh Tolliver and four St. John's errors gave the Bulldogs a 12-11 edge. With the score tied at 18, back-to-back kills from Elise Ward and Tolliver, followed by two St. John's errors, put Butler ahead 22-18. Another Ward kill, combined with a St. John's error, sent the match to a fifth set.

Set 5 Butler (15-10)
In the decisive fifth set, St. John's jumped out to a 6-4 lead. Four straight kills from Butler by Alaleh Tolliver, Elise Ward, Maria Nix and Sawyer Jones put the Bulldogs ahead 8-6. Butler maintained its three-point lead until 12-10, when the Dawgs took advantage of two St. John's errors. Tolliver's 21st kill clinched the match and completed the reverse sweep for Butler.
