Belmont Sweeps Butler in Friday Doubleheader

The Bruins recorded two wins against the Bulldogs on Friday, posting a 12-2 victory in game one followed by a 20-10 win in the nightcap. Butler tied a program record by hitting six home runs in game two. It was the third time in program history for BU to homer six times in one ballgame.

Danny Barbero picked up an RBI in game one with a single to left that scored Connor Sackett. That BU run crossed the plate in the second and Jack Bello would homer in the sixth to end the scoring.

Bello went 3-for-4 from the dish and Barbero went 2-for-3. BU ended game one with six hits as Harry Carr also added one to the team total.

Corbin Snyder got the start and tossed four innings before handing the ball off to Alex Thomas. The win went to Will Pryor.

Game two was a wild one that featured 33 hits and 30 total runs in just seven innings.

Belmont scored four in the first, eight in the sixth and five more in the seventh to notch their sixth win of the season.

Bulldog home runs went to Will Burgess, Ryan Drumm, David Ayers, Jack Moroknek, Jack Bello and AJ Solomon. Four of BU's six home runs came in the sixth to give them a 10-7 lead. A Belmont three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth tied the game and the Bruins would control the action the rest of the way.

Brett Sherrard got the start in game two. He struck out three over 1.1 innings. Nate Rosser provided the team with long relief by throwing 3.2 innings. Sherrard and Rosser combined to give Butler five of their six strikeouts.

Six home runs in game two moved Butler's season total to 31. They are chasing the program record of 62 set one year ago. It also marked the third time in program history for BU to homer six times in one game. The first time was on Feb. 21, 1998 vs. Morehead State. They matched that effort with six more in a game vs. Valparaiso on April 26, 2008.

Rain on Saturday wiped out the scheduled game for that date so the two teams will return to the diamond on Sunday to play another doubleheader.
