Butler Earns Top Finishes at the Bryan Clay and Gibson Invitationals

The Butler track and field team earned top spots at both the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. and the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.

Bryan Clay Invitational
On Wednesday morning, Brendan Thomas made his 10,000 meters debut finishing second at the Open B race at 29:31.66. Tomer Mualem followed in the open heat of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase finishing with a mark of 9:14.71.

The Bulldogs picked up where they left off on Thursday in the men's and women's 5,000 meters. Matthew Forrester led the way in the men's 5K Invite Heat 1 posting a mark of 13:37.35 to place 14th. William Zegarski joined Forrester as the other Bulldog to break 14 minutes, recording a time of 13:47.31 and placing 10th in the men's 5K Invite Heat 4.

On the women's side, Wiktoria Klebowska finished in 17th in the 5K Invite Heat 4 at 16:51.32.

Butler finished the weekend in California on Friday after racing in the 1,500 meters. Camille El Baghlouli ran a time of 2:12.89 in the women's 1,500 Open.

In the men's 1,500 Invite, Jesse Hamlin earned a time of 3:40.79 to take 16th. Austin Gabay and David Slapak followed with Gabay taking 53rd at 3:43.99 and Slapak in 86th at 3:47.13.

Gibson Invitational
The rest of the team remained in Indiana for the Gibson Invitational from Thursday to Saturday. Abby Brennan led the way securing second in the women's 400 meters at 55.79. Ashley Learn competed in both the women's 800 meters and 1,500 meters. Learn first took 16th in the 800 meters at 2:21.58 and 15th in the 1,500 meters at 4:41.62.

On the men's side, Charlie Jones made the podium in the men's 1,500 meters at 3:53.02. Joe Barrett followed in the same event taking seventh at 3:54.71.

In the field, Cabott Craft earned second in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.89 meters. Luke Walden also earned a top spot finishing in third for the men's pole vault with a height of 4.93 meters.

For the relays, the Bulldog men's 4x100 relay quartet of Troy Larrison, Joseph Pierro, Ben Bradley and Ethan Falconer finished fifth at 41.20.


Up Next
The Bulldogs will return to action next weekend to compete in three different meets in three different states. The team will first head to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays from Apr. 24-26 while another part of the team travels to Urbana-Champaign, Ill. for the Illini Twilight. The rest of the Bulldog squad will head north to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet.
