12 Bulldogs Receive All-BIG EAST Honors After 2025 Outdoor Championships

The Butler track and field team was recognized on Thursday after 12 Bulldogs received All-BIG EAST honors after their respective performances last weekend.

The all-conference teams are composed of the BIG EAST competitors who placed in the top-three in any individual or relay event at the championships. The student-athletes competed from May 15-17 at the Sherman Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut.

Jesse Hamlin, Austin Gabay, and Joseph Pierro each earned multiple All-BIG EAST honors.

Hamlin and Gabay first competed individually in separate events with Gabay placing second in the men's 1,500 meters while Hamlin took third in the men's 5,000 meters. The duo then combined with Aedan Rendek and David Slapak to win the men's 4x800-meter relay.

Pierro defended Butler's title in the men's 200 meters to win his first ever gold medal. He earned his other medal with the 4x100-meter relay team made up of Lairden Rogge, Troy Larrison, and Ben Bradley that finished third.

Butler also went 1-2 in the men's 10,000 meters to win their sixth straight title in the event. William Zegarski took the top spot while Matthew Forrester followed just behind in second.

In the field, Luke Walden improved from last season in the men's pole vault taking home the silver medal. This was the highest medal in the event by a Bulldog since Wade Walder earned second in 2017.

Lily Wharton brought in the only medal on the women's side in the heptathlon. She became the fifth different Bulldog to medal in this event in the last five years.

A total of 144 student-athletes (73 men and 71 women) across eight schools were named to the All-BIG EAST Team.

The NCAA East First Round is scheduled for May 28-31 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 48 in the region in their respective event will earn entry into the preliminary competition.
