Bulldogs Travel to Central Michigan to Open Regular Season

The Butler women's soccer team opens the 2025 regular season on the road. The Bulldogs will face Central Michigan on its campus in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
 
The Chippewas are coming off a 2024 season in which it produced an overall 5-8-5 record, also going 3-4-4 in the MAC. The side picked up wins over Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, and Purdue Fort Wayne but lost to No. 14 Texas, TCU, Kentucky, and Ball State. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

Bulldog Bits
  • Three Bulldogs, Talia Sommer, Léa Larouche, and Gemma Gillespie, were called up to compete on the international stage during the offseason.
  • Sommer, from Tel Aviv, Israel, is a long-time member of the Israel national team. She appeared in all six UEFA Nations League contests this spring, scoring her side's only goal in the match vs. Scotland.
  • Larouche, from Quebec, Canada, tallied two goals and an assist in four appearances for Canada at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship. She scored the only goal in Canada's 1-0 win over the USA in the semifinal, helping her side to the overall championship.
  • Gillespie, a defender from Rolling Meadows, Illinois, made three appearances for the Puerto Rico U-20 national team at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
  • The trio of Bulldogs now joins former Butler standouts Paige Monaghan (USA), Serina Kashimoto (Japan), Olivia Colosimo (Canada), Leonie Doege (Germany), and Aliya Diagne (Germany) in representing their respective country while being active members of the Butler women's soccer program.
  • The Bulldogs were selected by BIG EAST coaches at No. 4 in the BIG EAST Preseason poll. Georgetown received the most points, including 10 first-place votes. Xavier was second with one first-place vote, followed by UConn in the third spot.
  • Two Bulldogs, Talia Sommer and Amelie Darey, were chosen for the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Sommer was one of only two players in the conference to be a unanimous selection.
  • Sommer has also been named to the United Soccer Coaches 2025 NCAA DI Women's Midfielders to Watch List.
  • Butler is replacing 11 players from the 2024 roster with one transfer (Chloe Brecht, from Pitt) along with eight freshmen.
  • 2025 will be Co-Head Coach Tari St. John's 20th at the helm of the Butler women's soccer program. Co-Head Coach Rob Alman begins his 14th.
