Northwestern Deals Butler First Loss of Season

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Butler women's soccer team tackled its second-consecutive Big Ten opponent on the road and came away with a 1-0 loss to Northwestern on the shore of Lake Michigan. The Bulldogs (2-1-1) equaled the Wildcats' seven shots and led in corner kicks, 5-0, but the Wildcats (3-1-2) found the back of the net in the 49th minute to win the match.

  • 20' | A Northwestern cross finds and open Wildcat at the far post, but Addison Ash comes off the line for the denial.
  • 40' | A Butler corner kick delivered by Talia Sommer is headed on goal by Gemma Gillespie. the shot is saved by the Wildcats keeper.
HALFTIME
  • 49' | Northwestern advances up the right side toward the penalty area. Ash comes off her line to challenge the attacker, but arrives too late. A quick square ball to a Wildcat teammate leads to an open-net shot that finds the back of the net. Northwestern leads, 1-0.
  • 80' | Ceilidh Whynott is open with the ball, 25 yards out, but her hard shot at the center of the goal is saved by Northwestern.
  • 89' | Gillespie steals a ball and quickly finds Talia Sommer. Sommer's hard shot from 30 yards sails just over the crossbar.
Bulldog Bits
  • Butler's defense coaxed Northwestern's offense into drawing 12 calls for offside. It was a record for the Wildcats.
