Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Joey Gruner

Butler Falls to the Buckeyes

INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler men's soccer team battled its only Big Ten opponent of the season on Saturday night when Ohio State visited the Sellick Bowl, but the visitors left with a 4-0 win. The Buckeyes (3-3-0) scored two in the first half and then added two more in a 78-second span in the second half. The Bulldogs (2-5-0) created their own chances, putting three shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Key Moments
  • 20' | Bernardo Raposo takes a hard shot from just outside the box that is saved by the Ohio State keeper but deflected down in front of the goal. Aiden Benitez charges and connects with the ball at the six, but it sails over the goal.
  • 20' | Ohio State connects a few passes on Butler's end. A chip to the left side is headed down and back toward the middle of the field. A Buckeye attacker is there and taps it in from five yards out. It's 1-0 Ohio State.
  • 24' | The Buckeyes have a free kick, straight on and 30 yards out. The shot to the right post is saved by Aurie Briscoe, but it rolls away, parallel to the endline. An Ohio State attacker keeps the ball in and sends it right back in front of the goal where a teammate is wide open and knocks it in from the six. The Buckeyes have a two-goal advantage.
  • 33' | Butler draws a foul on the far right side, about 25 yards out. Sam Pitts-Eckersall serves the free kick to the far post, and Kyle Alb gets a head on it. Alb's shot is saved by the Ohio State keeper.
  • 37' | Luca Raso carries down the left side. He plays it back, and toward the center, finding an open Raposo. A 34-yard strike from Raposo sails just inches over the crossbar on the right side.
          HALFTIME
  • 53' | Ohio State intercepts a pass in its own box and sends a long service forward, over the top, to the right forward. The attacker reaches the ball before his defender, takes a couple of touches, and shoots from 16 yards. The low shot goes just inside the far post to put the Buckeyes up, 3-0.
  • 54' | Ohio State steals the ball about 35 yards out from Butler's goal and immediately attacks. A forward is open between two Butler defenders, and he receives the pass. His shot, from 12 yards, slides just inside the near post. It's a 4-0 deficit for the Bulldogs.
