Butler built a two-set lead before IU Indianapolis was able to rally for a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs on the opening night of the Butler Volleyball Invitational hosted at the Fishers Event Center in Fishers, Ind.

The Jaguars took the match 22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-10.

With the result, Butler is now 5-6 on the season. IU Indy improves to 6-5.

THE DECIDING FIFTH: Butler jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the deciding set before IU Indianapolis was able to string together seven straight points for an 11-9 advantage. An
Elise Ward kill stopped the streak and pulled Butler within one point (11-10) before the Jaguars closed the match by winning the final four points.

SET BY SET:
- Five of Elise Ward's Butler-high 14 kills came in the first set on only eight swings as Butler took a 25-22 decision.
- Five Bulldogs had multiple kills and the team combined for four blocks as Butler took a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the second set.
- The third set saw IU Indianapolis limit Butler to .129 hitting while the Jaguars hit at a .278 clip in the 25-22 win. The set featured nine ties and five lead changes.
- Butler was done in by five service errors in dropping the fourth set, 25-22, to the Jaguars.

QUICK ATTACKS:
- Elise Ward led four Bulldogs in double-figure kills with 14. Five of Ward's kills came on her eight swings in the first set.
- Libero Lauren Evans had a match-high 21 digs.
- Zoe McDonald had 12 kills on a .417 attack percentage Friday night.
- Jillian Tippmann led the Jaguars with 19 kills; Maia Long added 17.
- Butler had eight services aces in the match – two each from Ward, Evans, Kaylee Finnegan and Alaleh Tolliver.
- Butler hit .206 for the match; IU Indy countered with a .245 percentage.
- Butler's 10 team blocks included seven block assists from Ellery Rees and five from Sawyer Jones.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs return to the Fishers Event Center Saturday for the second day of the Butler Volleyball Invitational. The Bulldogs will play Oakland at 2 p.m. and then follow that with a 5 p.m. match against Eastern Michigan.
