Butler Falls at No. 10 Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Butler men's soccer team traveled to Pittsburg for its first road match of the season and came away with a 4-1 loss at the hands of No. 10 Pitt. The Panthers (3-2-0), out of the ACC, scored a pair of goals in the first half and added two more after the break. The Bulldogs (2-4-0) got on the board in the 71st minute but were unable to close the gap.

Key Moments
  • 19' | Bernardo Raposo sends a ball from the center of the pitch to the left side. Luca Raso collects it and pushes toward the penalty area. His shot from 18 yards is deflected, just over the crossbar, and goes out for a corner.
  • 33' | A Pitt winger sprints down the right side and sends a ball straight across to the front of the goal. An attacker is there and is able to redirect the ball directly into the back of the net. The Panthers take a 1-0 lead.
  • 37' | Pitt attacks from the left side this time. The ball is carried to the arc, and an unassisted goal puts the Panthers up, 2-0.
     HALFTIME
  • 50' | PItt plays a ball forward to an attacker who has broken through the right side of Butler's defensive line. The ball is centered to a wide-open second attacker who knocks it in. The score is 3-0.
  • 54' | A Panthers midfielder splits two Butler defenders on the right side with a pass toward the endline. A Pitt attacker plays the ball back in front of the goal, and a wide-open Panther is able to directly place the ball in for the fourth goal.
  • 71' | Josemir Gomez carries through multiple defenders and finds Sam Pitts-Eckersall 30 yards out in the center of the field. Pitts-Eckersall moves left and fires from 28 yards. The left-footed shot lands just inside the right post and puts the Bulldogs on the board.
