Bulldogs Fall in 13 Innings to Georgetown

Georgetown picked up a 13-inning win over Butler Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Park. The Hoyas utilized a nine-run extra frame in the 14-5 victory.

With the result, Butler is now 15-24 on the season and 5-4 in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas took two games in the three-game series.

The Bulldogs got on the board first, putting up a four-spot in the bottom of the first inning on a grand slam from Will White. The bomb to right field was the catcher's third home run of the season.

Georgetown chipped away at the lead in the middle innings with single runs in the third and the fifth sandwiched around a two-run fourth inning. Butler added a run in the fourth when Gavin Gilmore scored on a balk.

Brock Buckley got the start for Butler and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits. He struck out six without surrendering a walk. Jake Thomas came on in relief, holding the Hoyas scoreless from the seventh through 12th inning. He was on the mound as the Hoyas started their 13th inning, taking the loss.

Gilmore led the Bulldogs at the plate with a 3-for-4 day that included a double, in addition to two walks and a hit by pitch. Aidan Thaxton also had three of the Bulldogs' 10 hits.

Butler's 12 seniors were recognized in a pregame ceremony.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday for a single game at Eastern Illinois before traveling to Creighton for a three-game BIG EAST series that begins Friday in Omaha.
