CHICAGO – With today's 6-0 win in game-three, the Butler softball team took the series at DePaul, two games to one. The Bulldogs (22-18, 13-9 BIG EAST) led 2-0 after three innings and scored four in the fourth to put the game in the hands of the defense. The Blue Demons (19-27, 7-14 BIG EAST) managed only three hits as Butler's
Maren Berger threw a complete-game shutout.
Makena Alexander led Butler at the plate, going three-for-four with a home run and two RBIs.
In the top of the first inning,
Hailey Conger drew a walk and advanced to third on an Alexander single.
Olivia Robards (2-4, RBI) put the ball in play, and Conger was able to avoid the tag at home. The 1-0 lead held for two innings.
In the third, Alexander hit a solo bomb over the center-field wall. The Butler lead was now two.
One inning later,
Alona Boydston (2-3) reached on a single. Two batters later, pinch runner
Paige Lillie scored on a
Paxton Law single up the middle. DePaul chose to make a pitching change, but the Dawgs didn't let up. Singles from
Cate Lehner and Alexander, along with an error in the outfield, pushed the lead to 6-0.
Berger's win in the circle was her fourth this season. In 7.0 innings, she allowed just three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Bulldog Bits
- Alexander's home run was her 13th this season and the 25th of her career.
- The win for Berger was her second complete-game win in the three-game series with DePaul. It was her first complete-game shutout victory as a Bulldog.

Butler will play its final BIG EAST series next weekend, hosting league-leading Providence from Friday-Sunday, May 1-3. The Bulldogs will honor their seniors on Saturday prior to game two.
