INDIANAPOLIS - Butler defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 8-3 on Friday afternoon. With the win, Butler improves to 17-28 overall and 6-7 in BIG EAST action while Seton Hall Slides to 14-23 overall and 2-11 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first and second were scoreless for both sides, as neither side was able to generate much offense.
- Seton Hall put runners on the corners with one out in the top of the third. A hit by pitch loaded the bases for SHU before an RBI double cleared the bases, giving the visitors a 3-0 advantage. Butler responded by putting runners on the corners with no outs. An error from the catcher allowed the runner to score from third, putting the Dawgs on the board, before a sac fly brought another home, cutting the deficit to one (3-2) heading into the fourth.
- After keeping the Pirates off the board in the top half of the inning, BU had a runner on first with two outs. Thaxton stepped up to the dish and drilled a home run to deep left center, giving Butler its first lead of the day at 4-3.
- In the bottom of the fifth with one on and one out, Rhoades smashed a double to right center, plating one for BU as the Bulldog lead grew to 5-3.
- In the sixth, Butler had runners on first and second with one out. Ayers laced a single at the first baseman that squeaked by, allowing both runners to score as Ayers advanced to second. Ayers tried to steal third and was able to make it home on an error from the catcher. Butler took the 8-3 advantage into the seventh.
- The seventh and eighth were scoreless for both sides as BU held onto the five-run lead heading into the final frame.
- SHU was unable to mount a comeback, as Butler secured the 8-3 victory in game one of the series.

Butler and Seton Hall return to action tomorrow for game two of the series. First pitch at Bulldog Park is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the HomeTeam Network.
