BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Butler goalkeeper
Brooks Boersma gave an inspired effort between the posts for the Butler men's soccer team, denying No. 14 Indiana a goal for 61 minutes. The Hoosiers (3-0-0) ultimately put one in the back of the net and held on for a 1-0 victory.
"I am really proud of the fight and effort from our group tonight," stated Head Coach Ian Sarachan. "We are in the infancy of our team becoming the group we ultimately want to be, and games like this, against top opponents only help."
In just his third start for the Bulldogs (0-2-1), Boersma produced 13 total saves, tying for fourth on Butler's all-time list for saves in one match.
"For six of our starters, this was only their third ever college soccer match," added Sarachan. "Brooks being one of those six, he was tremendous tonight. He showed a maturity and calmness that helped us stay in the match. The experience our group is gaining will prove so valuable over the course of the season. Even with the results up to this point not being what we would have liked, the group is making great strides. We will take the good and bad, learn from these matches and keep moving forward. We are going to keep pushing them and challenging them in ways that will allow us to compete with the best teams in the country."

- 8' | Indiana attacks from the left side. A hard shot is saved by Boersma, but the deflection lands among players near the arc. A subsequent shot by the Hoosiers is off target.
- 12' | Butler advances the ball forward and connect a couple of passes in the area. Brendan Cunningham's shot is blocked.
- 23' | Boersma is forced to save two successive shots, just 44 seconds apart. The first is from 13 yards out and the second is from just outside the area on the left side.
- 34' | Boersma makes his eighth save of the half on a header from six yards in front of the goal.

- 52' | Butler's Chace Crismale carries into the area in front of the Hoosiers' net. His cross is deflected out for a corner kick, but the Bulldogs are unable to use it to get a shot.
- 54' | The Indiana attack generates a shot from 13 yards, right in front of the goal, but the ball flies wide of the right post.
- 62' | On its twelfth corner kick of the match, Indiana breaks through. The service from Alex Matthews is deflected to the ground, and Nick McHenry gives the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead.
- 74' | Butler pushes forward and sends a low cross into the area, but Indiana's defense intercepts and clears the threat.
- 88' | The Hoosiers attack from the left side. A low shot from near the end line, just six yards away, is deflected away by Boersma.
Bulldog Bits
- Boersma's 13 saves were the most by a Bulldog goalkeeper since 2000, when Jason Eicharz denied 13 vs. Indiana.
- Two Bulldogs have saved 14 shots in one match on three separate occasions: John Cone, in 1993, and David McVay, twice in 1989.
