On the Record with Head Coach Kyle Shonell

Bellarmine's really good, and we knew that the record wasn't going to show the type of grit they had. They're a unique kind of team that pesters you in ways that you're not used to. They've got a really good libero, and we just couldn't find ways to score. Our offense was not up to par the first three sets. Defense carried us through some; they're hitting negative in the first two or three sets, but we locked it in in set four. Took care of business in front of an awesome home crowd. Just thankful to get out of here with a win.

Set 1 Butler (25-14)
The Bulldogs opened set one with neither team taking a commanding lead until the midway point, with Butler taking a 15-10 edge at the halfway point of set one. Butler came out of the halfway point on an 8-3 run. It would be Butler who would close out set one 25-14.

Set 2 Butler (25-18)
Butler opened set two carrying the same momentum they had from set one. The Bulldogs took a commanding 15-11 lead halfway through set two. The Knights continued to fight and try to crawl back into the set. It would eventually be Butler who won set two, 25-18.

Set 3 Bellarmine (27-25)
The Knights opened set three with a 10-5 lead, but the Bulldogs would crawl their way back into the set and take a narrow 15-14 edge at mid way point of set three. The Bulldogs and Knights would continue to trade points all the way through set three. Eventually, it would be the Knights who took set three.

Set 4 Butler (25-18)
The Bulldogs opened set four, taking a narrow edge over the Knights 15-11 at the midway point of set four. Butler continued to put the pressure on the Knights in the late moments of the frame. The Bulldogs went on to take set four 25-18 for a set win and match victory.
