Box Score 2 The Bulldogs closed out play at Auburn's Plainsman Invite with a pair of losses Saturday afternoon. Butler split four games in Alabama to start the 2016 season with a 2-2 record.
In the first contest Saturday, Kristin Gutierrez held Western Kentucky scoreless through the first six innings of the game before the Hilltoppers pushed across two in the top of the seventh. Gutierrez (1-1) allowed five hits and struck out four in six-plus innings of work.
Butler had three hits, one each by Sarah Dixon, Cheyenne Thompson and Zoe St. Cyr.
In the second game of the day, Butler matched up with SEC power and host school Auburn.
The Tigers put up 15 runs in the first inning en route to a 28-2 decision in five innings.
Butler returns to action Friday, traveling to Nashville, Tenn., for five games over three days. The first pitch on Friday is against East Tennessee State.
