Box Score Butler closed out a 3-1 weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C., with a 6-1 win over IUPUI Sunday morning. Kristin Gutierrez went the distance, allowing seven hits while striking out three to record her second win of the season. Butler is now 6-7.
Alyssa Lach and Cheyenne Thompson had back-to-back homeruns in the fifth. It was Thompson's first homer in a Butler uniform. It was the second game in a row that Butler has had back-to-back long balls as Brandyce Sallee and Kaitlin Doud accomplished the feat on Saturday night.
Butler's six runs came on only five hits as four of the runs scored on errors and wild pitches. Lach had two hits in the contest.
Gutierrez (2-3) had a strong weekend in Chapel Hill. In addition to Sunday's win, she limited the host Tar Heels to only two runs Friday.
Butler returns to action next weekend, traveling to Carbondale, Ill., for four games hosted on the Southern Illinois campus. Butler will play the host Salukis twice, in addition to Eastern Illinois and Kansas.
