Butler dropped a midweek contest at Purdue, 5-0, Wednesday night in one of the team's final non-conference match-ups of the 2016 season. The host Boilermakers turned eight hits into five runs to improve to 25-20 on the season. Butler falls to 23-19.

Both teams played without several starters with conference games looming this weekend.

Butler's hits came from senior Krosley Ogden, who batted lead-off Wednesday, and third baseman Alyssa Lach. Brandyce Sallee drew two of the team's four walks.

Ambry Turpen got the start for the Bulldogs and pitched 1.2 innings. She gave up two of Purdue's runs in the second inning and fell to 1-1 on the season. Kacey Starwalt (2.2 innings) and Addison Baumle (1.2 innings) came on in relief. The Boilermakers scored two runs in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth inning.

Freshman Maddie Damon came on in relief for Purdue in the fourth inning and pitched three innings to pick up the win. Purdue's offensive output was highlighted by three hits by Maya Hughes and a home run by Emily Kenny.

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday with a doubleheader to begin their final BIG EAST home series of the season, hosting Creighton for a noon first pitch. The team's three seniors – Ogden, Riley Carter and Kristin Gutierrez – will be honored Saturday.
