Live Stats vs. Saint Mary's
INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's lacrosse team will head into their third and fourth games of the season when they host California and Saint Mary's this weekend. The Bulldogs fell to Detroit 20-9 last Saturday at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Detroit, Michigan moving their overall record to 0-2.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Journey Fischbeck, Butler, Fr., A/M
Fischbeck led Butler against Detroit Mercy on Saturday with five points off a hat trick and two assists. The rookie added two ground balls and two caused turnovers in what was just the Bulldogs' second game in program history.
About Butler
Haley Hallenbeck and
Journey Fischbeck share the team lead in points with eight. Hallenbeck is the top goal scorer on the team with seven while Fischbeck leads the way with three assists.
Madison Christian and
Adilyn Smith have multiple goals on the season, but are still looking for their first assists of the year. Rounding out the scoring is
Taylor Kinn who has two points with one goal and one assist.
Ashley Lizzi and
Christina Soderquist are the top two BU players to come up with draw controls. Lizzi currently leads the team in the category with seven, but Soderquist is close behind with six.
Butler has used two goalkeepers this season in
Allie Storke and
Haley Rayburn. Storke has seen a majority of the action to post 14 saves. In a reserve role, Rayburn has made six saves in just over 38 minutes of playing time.
Scouting California
The Bulldogs will host California at Varsity Field on Friday, Feb. 24 at 4 P.M. The Bears are currently on a two-game losing streak after falling to Oregon 18-9 on Feb. 19. Their first game of the season was a 15-5 setback to Denver on Feb. 10.
Caroline Schlegel leads the team with six goals and is tied for the team lead in draw controls with four. Jena Fritts and Elizabeth Pellechi are also scoring threats for the Bears. Each player has two goals on the year and Pellechi is tied for the team lead in assists with two.
The Bulldogs can count on Jenny Wilkens playing goalie for the Bears. Wilkens has 16 saves after two games, but owns a 17.78 goals against average.
Scouting Saint Mary's
BU will host Saint Mary's on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 12 P.M. The Gaels are 0-2 on the year with setbacks to #4 USC and Stanford. They will face Robert Morris on the road on Friday, Feb. 24 before visiting Indianapolis for their match at Varsity Field.
Jocelyn Lubert and Meagan Bennett have combined to score five of Saint Mary's seven goals on the season. The lone assist of the year for the Gaels belongs to Jillian Dunlap who also has a goal to her season stats. Rounding out the goal total is Claire Healy who has one goal on just two shots.
Saint Mary's will split time at the goalkeeper position between Sydney Pinello and Cassidy Hoffman. Pinello has seven saves compared to just two from Hoffman. Each goalie has logged 60 minutes of playing time.
Titan Recap
Butler took a 20-9 loss at Detroit on Saturday afternoon. The high scoring first half featured a 15-7 Titan advantage while the two teams only combined for seven goals over the final 30 minutes of action.
Haley Hallenbeck and
Journey Fischbeck shouldered the scoring load for the Bulldogs combining for seven of the nine goals on the day.
The opening stages of the first half featured back and forth action as the two teams came together at 4-4 at the 18:25 mark. Hallenbeck scored three of the opening four goals for the Bulldogs with the fourth coming from Fischbeck. The game would move to 9-5 in favor of Detroit after back-to-back goals from Brianna Plester. Plester's outbreak signaled the start of a 7-0 UDM scoring run.
The tempo definitely slowed down in the second half, but Detroit remained in the driver's seat by scoring the first four goals of the second frame. Fischbeck broke the streak with an unassisted goal at the 18:33 mark and
Taylor Kinn would cap off the scoring with a goal in the final seconds of the contest.

The Bulldogs will hit the road for their next three games. The first challenge of the road trip will be played on March 5 at 12 PM when the team travels to Macon, Ga. to take on Mercer.
