Butler split a pair of games to open Spring Break play in Florida, knocking off Fort Wayne by a score of 5-1 after falling to Central Michigan, 10-2. Butler is now 7-10 on the season.
Against Fort Wayne, the Bulldogs scored a run on an error in the first inning. Butler then put four runs on the board in the top of the seventh to create some breathing room.
Cheyenne Thompson had a two-run double and
Sarah Dixon had a sacrifice to push across three of the runs. Thompson later scored on a Fort Wayne error.
Butler's five runs came on six hits.
Maggie MacBeth had two of those hits.
Mikeila Boroff pitched 5.1 scoreless innings for the Bulldogs, scattering three hits to improve to 2-1 on the season. She struck out five Mastodons.
Kaitlin Doud recorded the final five outs.
In the opener Wednesday, Central Michigan used a five-run second inning to take a 10-2 win in five innings.
Madi Christiansen and Doud had RBI singles in the first inning for the Bulldogs.
Gabbi Schnaiter took the loss for the Bulldogs.
Kacey Starwalt, Doud, and
Ambry Turpen also saw time in the circle for Butler.
The Bulldogs continue play in Florida with games against Monmouth and Canisius Friday.
