Butler stepped out of BIG EAST play Tuesday, dropping a 2-0 decision to Eastern Illinois in Indianapolis at the Butler Softball Field. The Bulldogs fall to 17-20 on the season. EIU is now 23-16.

Eastern Illinois was able to push across single runs in both the fifth and seventh innings. Both runs scored via RBI singles from Tori Johnson.

EIU's Jessica Wireman got the start and the win to improve to 12-9. She went 4.1 innings, allowing only a single hit. She gave way to Michelle Rogers, who finished the game for her second save of the season.

Butler's best scoring opportunity came in the top of the sixth as Jenna Foreman singled to lead off the inning. She stole second and then was sacrificed to third, but back-to-back strikeouts stranded her there as the potential tying run at that point in the game before the Panthers pushed across an insurance run in the seventh.

Foreman had both of Butler's hits in the contest.

Freshman Gabbi Schnaiter went five innings, allowing four hits and single earned run. She was the hard-luck loser to fall to 6-9 on the season. Kacey Starwalt pitched the final two innings, allowing an unearned run. They combined to allow seven EIU hits.

Butler had scored at least four runs in each of its games dating back to the BIG EAST opener with DePaul March 25, a span of eight games. The Bulldogs were shut out for the first time since March 17 against Toledo.

The Bulldogs return to action this weekend, hosting St. John's in a BIG EAST doubleheader Saturday and single game Sunday. Sunday's game will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
