Box Score
INDIANAPOLIS – The St. John's Red Storm exploded for nine runs in the top of the 11th inning to record their 26th win of the season. Butler made a costly error with two outs that would have ended the 11th. The throw to second base for the force out was off the bag and allowed the Johnnies to prevail. The weekend sweep gives the Red Storm a 4-2 record in BIG EAST play while Butler moves to 2-4.

A breakdown of the 11th inning featured a three-RBI double to right field from Gingras, an RBI single to left from Valente, a two-run home run from Brocato and another two-run home run this time from Dixon.

Chris Myjak and
Josh Walker were on the mound for BU with the Bulldogs trying to close out the game. Myjak walked three and surrendered two hits in his 1.2 innings of work. Walker came in for the final out after allowing four runs off four hits.

The start went to southpaw
Connor Mitchell. The lefty struck out three over 6.2 innings. He allowed three runs off nine hits. The fourth arm used in the getaway game was
Ottavio Dattolo. He limited STJ to just one hit in 2.1 innings. He struck out two and only walked one.

Butler took an early lead in the contest by scoring a pair of runs in the first off a two-RBI single to right from
Jordan Lucio.
Garrett Christman and
Michael Hartnagel would each score on the play. Christman reached on a fielder's choice and Hartnagel reached base after ball four.

St. John's cut their deficit in half with an RBI single in the second inning and would move forward to take a 3-2 lead after scoring two in the third. Shaw was credited with a sac fly to right to score the first run and an RBI single to center from Gingras would put the Red Storm on top.

BU battled back to knot the game at 3-3 in the fifth.
Zach Jarosz singled to center to lead off the inning and Houston would join him on base after being hit by a pitch.
Garrett Christman laid down a nice sacrifice bunt to advance each baserunner and a hard ground ball from Hartnagel would allow Jarosz to score the game-tying run.

Butler had two great chances to win the game in crunch time. They got out of the top of the ninth with two men on and two out, thanks to a hard hit ball back up the middle of the diamond that struck Dattolo in the leg. The ball deflected off the pitcher and rolled to
Jordan Lucio at first base for the out.

Houston kept the magic alive with a lead-off triple in the bottom of the ninth. The extra base hit would go to waste however as Houston was stranded 90 feet away.

The bottom of the 10th was another heartbreaker as BU loaded the bases with just one out. St. John's held strong however and left all three runners on base.

For the game, Butler left 15 runners on base while St. John's left 10. Gui Gingras went down as the player of the game by going 2-for-6 from the plate with four RBI and a run scored.

Midweek action for Butler will pick up on Tuesday, April 18 when the team hosts Eastern Illinois at 4 PM. BU will then travel to Bloomington to face the Indiana Hoosiers on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 6 PM.
