CHICAGO – The Bulldogs took a tough 4-0 loss to Eastern Michigan on Sunday to move their overall record to 19-8. Brent Mattson shut down the Bulldogs with a two-hit complete game shutout on the mound for the Eagles.
Mattson walked five and struck out six, but he would keep the Bulldogs off balance throughout the contest to help the Eagles record their eighth win of the season.
Michael Hartnagel and
Connor Dall each came up with a hit for the Bulldogs, but a four-run sixth inning from EMU would prove to be the deciding factor.
Butler used six arms against Eastern Michigan on Sunday with
Connor Mitchell getting the start. He went 5.1 innings before handing the ball off to
Danny Pobereyko. Mitchell led the team with four strikeouts. Others to get involved included
Kevin Napoleon,
Sam Hubbe,
Jack Pilcher and
Chris Myjak.
Butler will put this loss behind them and prepare for a Tuesday afternoon contest at home against the Marian Knights. BIG EAST action will get underway on April 7 when the Bulldogs travel to South Orange, N.J. to face the Seton Hall Pirates in a three-game series.
