Butler split a doubleheader at Seton Hall Saturday as the two teams battle for a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. Butler won the first game, 9-3, before dropping the second game to the Pirates, 10-3. With the results, Butler is now 19-27 overall and 7-9 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall is 22-21-1 and 7-10 in conference action.
In the opener, eight of the nine batters in the line-up had at least one hit as Butler had 11 in the contest. The Bulldogs were led by
Brandyce Sallee, who had five RBIs on a two-run home run in the third and a bases-clearing double in the sixth.
Butler jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on
Kaitlin Doud's RBI double. After Seton Hall responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame, the Bulldogs regained the lead on Sallee's blast to left field in the third. It was her second long ball of the season.
In the fifth, consecutive hits by
Sarah Dixon,
Madi Christiansen and
Alyssa Lach pushed across two runs. Sallee's three-run double highlighted the team's four-run sixth.
Doud got the win, allowing three runs in a complete game outing. She scattered eight hits and three walks, while striking out a career-best seven. Doud is now 6-7 on the season.
In the second game, Seton Hall used a seven-run fourth inning to seal the win.
Dixon had two of the team's four hits, driving in a pair of runs. Christiansen had the other RBI.
Starter
Mikeila Boroff took the loss, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings.
