Six Bulldogs registered double figures as Butler opened the 2018-19 season with a 100-63 exhibition win over Tiffin Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler shot 55 percent for the game against the NCAA Division II Dragons.
"Exhibition season allows us to get a better gage for where we are," said Butler coach LaVall Jordan. "Up until now, for 21 practices, it's been us versus us. Today, it was great to have fans in the stands, to have the popcorn popping and really see how our guys responded. We took care of the basketball, which is something we stress, and we moved the ball well. There's a lot to improve upon, but a lot to be happy about."
Kamar Baldwin led the Bulldogs with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Joey Brunk matched his eight rebounds for the team lead, in addition to scoring 11 points.
Sean McDermott, behind a 3-of-4 performance from three-point range, added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Henry Baddley had 15.
Paul Jorgensen scored 11 points, including seven in a 41-second spurt early in the first half that pushed the Bulldogs out to a 12-3 lead.
Both Jorgensen and Thompson had four assists as the Bulldogs had 19 assists against only five turnovers. Butler converted 18 Tiffin turnovers into 24 points.
Justin Miller came off the Tiffin bench to lead the team with 16 points. The Dragons shot 39 percent from the field.
Ten players suited up for the Bulldogs and nine of them had at least seven points.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, Nov. 3 with the team's second and final exhibition. Butler hosts Southern Indiana at 4 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tickets to the game are still available.
