The Butler men's tennis competed at the Purdue Invitational this weekend in West Lafayette. The Invitational was comprised of nine flights of singles and four flights of doubles. The Bulldogs were among 15 teams competing.
The weekend was highlighted by freshman
Ryan Roegner reaching the championship round in Flight D singles. Roegner defeated Egehan Sertkaya of Illinois State, Bryce Bonin of Ball State, and Alex Jochim of IUPUI to reach the championship match. The rookie faced Valparaiso's Brian Pecyna for the Flight D title but fell 6-1, 6-1.
Aviv Ben Shabat advanced to the semifinals in Flight B singles but fell to Ball State's Danilo Kovacevic 6-2, 6-4 to finish out his singles play. Â
Sam Sullivan also saw success in singles play, defeating Ball State's Tom Carney and Illinois State's Diego Herrera to find a spot in the F Flight semifinals. Sullivan fell to Tony Leto of Wisconsin Green Bay.
Mason Dragos and Ben Shabat represented Butler in Flight A doubles action, advancing to the championship round. The pair defeated Cardinal Stritch, Chicago State, and Illinois State before falling to the pair from Valparaiso in the championship, 7-3.
Michael Dickson and Sullivan saw action in Flight B doubles, advancing to the quarterfinals before falling to the team from Purdue 6-2. Dickson and Sullivan defeated Chicago State and Marquette to get there.

Drew Michael won two matches in Flight C doubles, beating DePaul and Purdue Northwest.Â
Lope Adelakun and Roegner defeated Wright State in Flight D doubles action. Â
The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 11, competing in the ITA Regional Championships from Oct. 11-15 in Knoxville, Tenn.
