Box Score
The Butler softball team shutout Tennessee State Saturday afternoon to improve their record to 6-11. The Bulldogs' four runs in the first and third innings proved to be too much for the Tigers.
Sarah Dixon started the rally for the Bulldogs, hitting her first triple of the season and scoring
Alyssa Garcia and
Jenna Foreman. Butler didn't let up, scoring two more runs off a sacrifice bunt from
Alyssa Lach and a single to right field from
Christina Candotti.
The Tigers held the Bulldogs scoreless in the second but the Bulldogs would score four more in the third, led by a solo homerun from
Kaitlin Doud, her second of the season. Foreman then singled up the middle to score
Cheyenne Thompson and
Claire Gilliland.
Errors got the best of Tennesse State after Butler had built a 6-0 lead. Thompson would score off an error committed by the shortstop and
Jenna Foreman scored on a wild pitch.
Foreman ended the game 3-for-3 with one RBI and three stolen bases. Doud went 2-for-2 with one homerun. The junior also scored two runs.
Doud (2-3) got it done in the circle as well, throwing the five-inning shutout. She struck out two and gave up only three hits.
Erica O'Kane (0-3) was the losing pitcher for the Tigers. She threw three innings, giving up eight hits and six earned runs. Tori Hart came on in relief in the fourth inning, giving up two hits and one walk.
The Bulldogs wrap up their weekend Sunday morning, facing Bowling Green at 8:30 a.m. and Lehigh at 10 a.m. Live stats for both games are available with link posted on ButlerSports.com.
